The Sorrows of Young Werther is an epistolary novel by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The book was published in 1774 and made the author famous all over Germany. The novel is partly autobiographical. Werther is in love which is not mutual and cannot find support in society, so he is forced to go for a terrible sin. Goethe's novel had a strong influence on the youth, it started the phenomenon known as the "Werther Fever" associated with the suicide issue due to a melancholy nature.
