No One Writes to the Colonel is a short story by the Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, first published in 1961. This is the story of a poor, retired colonel, a veteran of the Thousand Days' War, who still hopes to receive the pension he was promised. He believes that soon he will receive a letter with the money he has been waiting for a long time, but for now he can only hope that his fighting rooster will let him win some money.
