"The Sovereign" is a guide to action for novice tyrants. The most important thesis of this work, with which almost everyone is familiar, is that the end justifies the means. The book was the reason for the emergence of a whole political philosophy of "Machiavellianism", in which rudeness and disregard for moral norms are the basis of government.
